Ivan Illich is the most important thinker of institutions, technology, tools, and the human condition who got overhyped while simultaneously misunderstood and then eclipsed by Foucault and Habermas on the one side, and Freire, hooks, and Giroux on the other. We're calling for a critical, sincere, and earnest return to Ivan Illich. Bryan Weeks, one of the core TU instructors (who co-taught The Idea of the University course) has put this together and will be leading lectures and discussions around the texts he considers to be most essential to understanding Illich on his own terms but for our times.
